IRON AND STEEL
CEN/TC 459 ‘ECISS – European Committee for Iron and Steel Standardization’ hosts 12 Subcommittees that oversee standardization for a wide range of iron and steel products – such as wires, rods, tubes, sheets, castings and forgings – used for different applications, ranging from electrical and machinery, to construction.
CEN/TC 459/SC 1 'Test methods for steel (other than chemical analysis)' develops general methods for mechanical testing, physico-chemical and non-destructive testing including, if necessary, the verification and calibration of equipment that is used to determine the properties of the steel. CEN/TC 459/SC 1 will finalize and adopt several EN ISO standards on tensile testing, such as EN ISO 26203-1 ‘Metallic materials — Tensile testing at high strain rates — Part 1: Elastic-bar-type systems’.
CEN/TC 459/SC 2 'Methods of chemical analysis for iron and steel' standardizes methods and equipment for the determination of chemical composition of iron and steel and related materials. CEN/TC 459/SC 2 will continue working on the revision of various Technical Reports, such as CEN/TR 10317 ‘European certified reference materials (EURONORM-CRMs) for the determination of the chemical composition of iron and steel products’.
CEN/TC 459/SC 3 'Structural steels other than reinforcements', CEN/TC 459/SC 10 'Steel tubes, and iron and steel fittings' and CEN/TC 459/SC 11 'Steel castings and forgings' will work on the harmonized standards mandated by the draft Standardization Request for structural metallic products, addressing a variety of products, such as sections, sheets, plates, and piles.
CEN/TC 459/SC 4 'Concrete reinforcing and prestressing steels' will continue to provide inputs to the CPR Technical Acquis subgroup ‘Reinforcing and prestressing steel for concrete', in view of a future Standardization Request.
CEN/TC 459/SC 7 ‘Steels for pressure purposes’ will provide inputs for the upcoming Standardization Request in support of the Pressure Equipment Directive.
CEN/TC 459/SC 8 ‘Steel sheet and strip for electrical applications’ will continue working on the revision of EN 10265 ‘Magnetics materials - Specification for electrical steel strip and sheet with specified mechanical properties and magnetic polarisation’. It will also developa new CEN/TR ‘Methods of determination of the mechanical properties of self-bonding coating assemblies related to non-oriented electrical steels’.
CEN/TC 459/SC 9 'Coated and uncoated flat products to be used for cold forming' will continue its work on steel for packaging. For instance, it will revise EN 10333 ‘Steel for packaging - Flat steel products intended for use in contact with foodstuffs, products and beverages for human and animal consumption - Tin coated steel (tinplate)’ and EN 10334 ‘Steel for packaging - Flat steel products intended for use in contact with foodstuffs, products and beverages for human and animal consumption - Non-coated steel (blackplate)’.
CEN/TC 459/SC 10 'Steel tubes, and iron and steel fittings', CEN/TC 459/SC 11 'Steel castings and forgings', and CEN/TC 459/SC 12 ‘General issues’ will provide inputs for the upcoming Standardization Request in support of the Pressure Equipment Directive.
ALLOYS
CEN/TC 132 'Aluminium and aluminium alloys' will continue working on the revision of EN 12392 'Aluminium and aluminium alloys - Wrought products and cast products - Special requirements for products intended for the production of pressure equipment in support of the PED’.
Furthermore, CEN/TC 133 'Copper and copper alloys' will continue working on several standards in support of the PED, on various shapes and applications of unwrought, wrought and cast products. Two highlights will be EN 12167 ‘Copper and copper alloys - Profiles and bars for general purposes’ and EN 12164 ‘Copper and copper alloys - Rod for free machining purposes’.
